Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will introduce several new Pokémon to fans of the franchise. Thanks to the trailers, players got their first look at what to expect from the Paldea region, so here are all the new Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet so far.
A new generation of Pokémon is coming to Nintendo Switch with the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Expectations are high for this innovative open-world experience, but despite improvements to the game, all eyes will be on Scarlet and Violet’s new Pokémon ahead of launch.
The hype surrounding generation nine is starting to build as the Pokémon Company has revealed some of Scarlet and Violet’s new Pokémon via reveal trailers. As with most new entries, it’s also safe to expect some new Paldean Pokemon variants from previous generations.
So far, eleven new Pokemon have been confirmed for Scarlet and Violet, so let’s take a look at what we can expect.
Traditionally, Fire-type starter Pokémon are some of the most popular new introductions to a new title, and Fuecoco has big shoes to fill. This crocodile-like Pokemon will be looking to emulate the popularity of the original Fire-type starter, Charizard.
- Write: Water
- Ability: Torrent
Quaxly is Scarlet and Violet’s Water-type starter and while he is clearly adorable, he is said to have a neat and proper nature. Quaxly is a Duckling Pokémon, so it could possibly take on a Water/Flying dual-type as it evolves.
- Write: Grass
- Ability: Overgrow
Sprigatito is constantly trying to get his trainer’s attention and his fur is said to be as fluffy as can be. It remains to be seen whether Sprigatito will become a fierce feline or keep his cute and cuddly demeanor.
- Write: Normal
- Ability: Scent Veil / Gluttony
Lechonk’s lovable attitude and appearance took the Pokémon world by storm when it was revealed in the Second trailer for Scarlet and Violet. Normal guys don’t usually cause the most excitement among players, so it was nice to see Lechonk gain some time in the spotlight.
- Write: Grass / Normal
- Ability: Early riser
Smoliv is one of two Dual-type Pokemon to be revealed for Scarlet & Violet thus far. The Olive Pokémon is the second Pokémon to have a grass and normal type following the Deerling and Sawsbuck line in Pokémon Black and White.
- Write: Electric
- Ability: Static / Natural Cure
Pawmi has some Pikachu-sized shoes to fill as a Pokémon electric mouse in scarlet and purple. Although they don’t have the same recognizable color, Pawmi and Pikachu store electricity in their cheek pouches.
- Write: Fairy
- Ability: own time
On paper, a Fairy-type puppy Pokemon looks like it would be the cutest new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Fortunately, Fidough does not disappoint, as he increases the cuteness to eleven. Players will have to wait and see if their evolutions keep their initial charm.
- Write: Ice
- Ability: Thick Fat / Slush Rush
Cetitan certainly has an interesting design as the resident ice type of the Paldea region. It looks like Cetitan will be found in snowy areas as a winter whale Pokemon. Both Thick Fat and Slush Rush are fantastic abilities that turn any Cetitan you catch into a powerful ally.
- Write: Poison / Earth
- Ability: Poison Point / Absorb Water
This new and improved version of Wooper is the first Paldean variant to be revealed. Paldean Wooper swaps its Water/Ground typing for a Poison/Ground type. Paldean Wooper removes its weakness to Grass-type moves, and thanks to the ability Water Absorb, it could negate its new weakness to Water-type moves.
Keep an eye out for any information on Paldean Quagsire ahead of release, as it’s bound to be a menacing Pokemon.
Koraidon and Myraidon
Little is known about Koraidon and Miraidon, other than the fact that they are the Legendary Pokémon exclusive to the game version. Koraidon is the traditional figure attached to Scarlet, while Miraidon gives Violet players a modern look. Scarlet and Violet’s in-game pets certainly look terrifying and it’s no surprise that they have the in-game stats to prove their rarity.
As more information about new Pokémon is revealed ahead of Scarlet and Violet’s November 18 release date, we’ll continue to update this article. Perhaps the next reveal will include new evolutions for fan-favorite Pokemon, which players always seem to get excited about.
