10 Video Game Character Quotes I’ll Never Stop Saying

There are few things better than blowing up a classic quote from the beautiful world of video games. Some quotes are deep lines that make serious claims about the nature of both man and the world as a whole, but some are simple, funny, and absolutely unforgettable.

Do I annoy everyone around me with my endless repertoire of classic lines? I imagine so, but that doesn’t mean I plan to stop anytime soon. If the lines are to be etched into my brain, they should be etched into everyone else’s as well. Admit it, I’m not the only one who occasionally makes some weird quote about the game.

THE GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

10 What do you buy? – The Merchant, Resident Evil

In a surprising twist, one of the most iconic characters in the Resident Evil franchise is the simple yet mysterious merchant from Resident Evil 4. I’m sure we’re all wondering how he manages to not only keep up with Leon but also have time to set. a shop in the middle of all the chaos.

Regardless, it’s always a pleasure to approach him to explore his products and hear that iconic line, “What do you want to buy?” Half the time, the quote doesn’t make sense, but you better believe that I mean it to the best of my ability whenever I give a person a choice between different things.

9 “Hadouken!” -Ryu, street fighter

If you don’t scream along with Ryu every time you make him throw a Hadouken, you might be normal, but I’m not. It’s a simple thing to shout about, especially when you release something of your own.

I can’t shoot blue energy from my hands, but I can practice responsible recycling practices by throwing a plastic bottle with a Hadouken of its own. I’ll know I’ve met my soulmate when I throw something at them while saying “Hadouken” and they catch it, throw it back and say “Sonic Boom!”

8 “Come here!” – Scorpion, Mortal Kombat

I think all Mortal Kombat fans can admit that they try to work the words “come here” into their daily vocabulary in order to feel like the most worldly ninja possible. I know it’s not just me who can’t stop saying this quote, entire rooms of people scream the line every time they see Scorpion throw one of his spears.

It’s a line I say all the time though, without the same vigor and ferocity that Scorpion brings. I’m waiting for the day I find myself in a heated argument with a fellow video game nerd, only for them to walk away because then I’ll know that it really is the perfect time for the line.

7 “You were almost a Jill sandwich” – Barry Burton, Resident Evil

The original Resident Evil has so much instantly-quotable dialogue, but few quotes managed to take on the kind of life that “That was too close. You were almost a Jill sandwich. she did. It’s my favorite moment every time I replay the original version of the classic horror title.

Some may wonder how I can work a line like that in my life, and I’ll be honest, it doesn’t always make sense. It’s a great line to break when someone has a near miss, one of those moments when something could have ended much worse if they had been just one step to the left.

6 “Jason!” – Ethan Mars, Heavy Rain

I want to formally apologize to anyone I’ve ever met named Jason. Things get even worse for all those Jasons when they’ve never played or even heard of Heavy Rain. The quote comes from a heavy moment in the game, but became a meme thanks to how much you can spam the call.

I don’t wander around the malls yelling, “Jason!” however, there will probably be more than a few people joining. The question isn’t, “should you press X on Jason?” but instead, “How many times can you spam Jason X?”

5 “The Cake Is a Lie” – Aperture Scientists, Portal

I could be wrong (I often am), but I don’t think anyone on Portal actually says the line: “The cake is a lie.” at any point. It’s written all over the place and became an entire meme, but it’s also one of those things that irrevocably became part of my vocabulary.

Is something too good to be true? Well, the cake must be a lie, right? I’m far from the only one who uses the line, as almost every time I show up at a birthday party, someone always breaks the line every time they roll their eyes at the birthday cake.

4 “Hey! Listen!” -Navi, The Legend of Zelda

Anyone who has ever experienced me trying to get his attention knows that I don’t have the greatest patience in the world. Instead of getting annoyed, I try to annoy the person I’m trying to talk to, and that comes in the form of mimicking everyone’s favorite Zelda sidekick, Navi.

I don’t exactly have the sweet tone of James Earl Jones, but I’m sure it comes as a shock to some people when I blurt out the playful, “Hey! Listen!” Honestly, I suggest everyone try it, because my success rate is quite high, something that may be due to people thinking about their own Ocarina Of Time games.

3 “What is a man? A bunch of miserable secrets!” – Dracula, Symphony Of The Night

I’d be surprised if most people didn’t utter this line along with Dracula when they experienced it in the opening segment of Symphony Of The Night. It’s a super cheesy line, but one that works despite all that cheese.

I myself use the line all the time, though not word for word. Usually, whenever someone asks what something is, I reply with “a measly pile of secrets?” Then I usually get confused looks of disapproval, but that’s okay because I’m smiling to myself like it’s nobody’s business.

two “Do a barrel roll!” – Animated Hare, Starfox 64

I know people who don’t tend to favor flying games who specifically replayed Starfox 64 to experience this iconic line. It is something that almost everyone ends up repeating to themselves every time they want to perform the maneuver.

You may be wondering, where in the world can this immaculate quote fit into your daily life? It’s quite simple, it’s the perfect answer to questions about what to do. You’ll definitely get some weird looks from non-players, but maybe they just need to do a barrel roll.

I know people who try to include the meme-worthy Skyrim guard lines in their real-life conversations, but I’ve always had a soft spot for one particular line of guards in Oblivion. Somehow, the guard lines of the Elder Scrolls series NPCs always manage to become memes.

The “Stop there, you criminal scum!” it is a line that works in anyone’s life. If you break the line with an exaggerated voice, you’re bound to get confused laughter from most people. It’s a silly and aggressive thing to say to someone, which makes it fun to use whenever you can.
