There are two things to keep in mind as you scroll through our favorite tree house building concepts:

  • To dictate the Size of your treehouse will depend on whether you are working on your main center or an addition to an existing build.
  • In addition, the biome What you choose to build will control the extent to which you can use naturally generated trees versus trees that you create artificially yourself.

With that said, we’ve rounded up some of the best treehouse building ideas for Minecraft, from simple treehouses for beginners to next-level layouts and challenging builds, and everything in between.

1. Simple tree house

If you’re having trouble with how to build a tree house in Minecraft, go to the basics to get started. Find a tree that’s a decent height (a good clear view is a plus) and attach a small four-walled house to it. Whether it’s in the air hanging from the tree or just on the adjacent ground, it really doesn’t matter!

It can expand up and out, even artificially increasing the tree’s height as you progress through the game. If you are new to Minecraft or building this type of house, definitely start here.

2. Jungle Tree House

In the biome that has the tallest trees, it only makes sense to use the real estate and build a shack high in the sky. The abundance of closely spaced tall trees and overhanging vines allow for an easy method of interconnecting several small structures.

The vines that adorn a number of trees in jungle biomes not only act as a natural ladder, but you can also place them on the leaves around the tree you’ve built on to create natural cover/camouflage.

If you’re in a multiplayer world with friends, this can be a particularly nice and doable project, with individual houses creating a charming Ewok-style village as the end result!

3. Leaf House

Can’t get your house to look good hanging from the side of a tree? Think outside the box and instead have your home base inside the leaves of a tree. Using shears to collect leaves from surrounding trees, you can create a bubble of leaves on top of the naturally occurring ones on the trees.

Although this may limit your decorating range and scope, this may be the best way for your home to blend in with its surroundings.

As advice: change the graphics settings from Fancy to Fast and the leaves will no longer be translucent, meaning any construction below the leaves will be completely invisible.

4. A literal tree house

If you want to take things to the next level of weird and unique, put the chore down on finding the perfect tree to call home and make your own instead. While somewhat inefficient in terms of resource usage, it can be a fun build to try to structure your house to replicate the shape and look of a tree, albeit slightly wider and larger than its siblings.

5. Lower Treehouse

With the Nether gaining forest biomes of late, you can take advantage of the lush new real estate to build a home high above the deep. Using Nether-exclusive blocks like Crimson Blocks and Netherrack can help your build feel more at home among its surroundings, but it also means you could lose it as it blends in more and more.

Threats abound in the Nether, so if you have access to a surplus of obsidian, it might be worth building your house (or at least the outer shell) out of it. That way, any Ghast fireballs that deflect near your build, the damage will be drastically reduced.

6. Tree root house

Do you want to be a little unconventional? Head underground with some bare logs and build some tree roots. Using the roots, you can hang a house from the ceiling of a cave.

Throw in some Spiky Dripstone, Spore Blossom and Glow Lichen to give it a natural, overgrown look and your humble underground abode is complete.

7. Cousin: Make a tree house for each type of tree

If you dare, you can also challenge yourself to make a tree house to each Minecraft tree type in the game. They were talking everybody from them; Oak, spruce, birch, dark oak and jungle!
