After four years, new teasers indicate that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is making its long-awaited return to Steam for PC gamers.

With Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Scheduled for release in October, fans are likely to expect the game to appear on the normal set of platforms, including Battle.net for PC gamers. However, following a Tweet from the official Obligations Twitter account regarding the June 8 reveal, the official Steam account responded with a set of eye emojis. Considering the internet often uses these emojis to hint at a big reveal or announcement, it’s hard to imagine what else the Steam account could be hinting at.


In fact, while this is the most concrete evidence of Obligations to return to Steam, is not the first clue. Recently, fans noticed that modern warfare 2 work of art appeared within the oldest Obligations titles still available on Steam. While quickly removed by Activision, the footage was captured and shared on various social media sites, including the Obligations subReddit. The return to Steam falls in line with more and more companies that have done similar things like EA and even Microsoft. In fact, it could be related to Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard and eventually moving the games to popular alternative markets for those who prefer Steam.


Modern Warfare 2 would be the first Obligations title will appear on Valve’s digital store in four years, as black ops 4 made the switch to Battle.net. For PC gamers, this was the only place to get access to upcoming Call of Duty releases. While the move may be surprising, it’s likely to be welcomed by PC gamers as Steam remains the most popular digital marketplace.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 premieres on October 28.
