A Twitch streamer has managed to beat the entirety of Metal Gear Solid using a dance pad and loads of stamina.
Lilly, also known as KittyRawr (opens in a new tab), started the challenge run about three weeks ago, taking breaks between each broadcast to rest for the next one. The Metal Gear Solid fan tells GamesRadar that the classic game was a natural choice as it’s one of her favorite series as she watched her brother play it as a child.
“So naturally, when I came up with the idea of dance floor racing, Metal Gear Solid was automatically selected as a game to challenge myself, as I knew it so well,” she says. “I also always thought, ‘What would a fight with Tank or Psycho Mantis look like on the dance floor?’ Both were insanely fun fights, and I beat Tank on the first try!”

While both encounters turn out to be the highlights of the run, Lilly wouldn’t consider either to be the hardest part of completing the game. That prize is for fighting Liquid Snake on top of Metal Gear REX or Hind D.
“The most challenging part so far has been the fight with Hind D, Metal Gear REX, and then the fistfight with Liquid on top of REX,” he tells us. “His moves are incredibly fast, and you have to counter a lot of his punches, kicks, and charge attacks. I played for six hours straight, a non-stop action sequence on the dance floor to come up with strategies to take down Liquid.”
Yet another aspect of the challenge is the physical cost of each stream. Each run lasts around six hours, which Lilly admits can be hard on the body. While the streamer has completed a few DDR pad runs, Metal Gear Solid has proven to be the most difficult.
“Dance pad challenges take a toll on my lower body and, in some cases, full-body fatigue,” explains Lilly. “I have to take a few days at least to recover before doing it again. (It’s mainly my fault though, because perseverance rules, and I try to fight over and over again until I can’t take it anymore.)
“After a platform dance stream, however, I take a long bath, have a few days off my feet, and do a lot of stretching. Metal Gear Solid has been the most difficult platform dance challenge, taking over three streams to complete. almost complete the entire game. Compared to the Resident Evil trilogy, each of those games would take a day to finish.”
Fortunately, each completion of a challenge race has benefited the next. For Lilly, topping the Resident Evil trilogy with a dance platform has given her all the tools she needed to take down Metal Gear Solid.

“Even though they were easier compared to Metal Gear Solid, it helped set me up to have good stamina, coordination, and deciding which buttons to set for the dance floor to make things a lot smoother,” he shares.
“Regarding the Resident Evil trilogy, RE3: Nemesis was the most difficult of the three, mainly because you had the tyrant hound Nemesis hunting you for almost the entire game. On the other hand, Metal Gear Solid has been the ultimate challenge – equipping and unequipping weapons/items quickly, dodging insanely fast moves, and lots of boss obstacles are insane.”
While each challenge is physically demanding, it should be a great alternative to going out for a workout. As such, I ask Lilly if these runs have given her a way to stay active while she stays indoors during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Yes!” she declares. “Doing dance pad runs has taken over some of my training routines, mostly with leg day. But, if you’re a player who wants to incorporate something that makes you sweat and burn calories and have fun doing it, the dance pad challenges are the way to go.
“Sure, there are rhythm games you can do too, but these are unique, and it feels very rewarding to play a game with something other than your hands.”
Lilly may have overtaken Metal Gear Solid, but don’t think she’ll stop anytime soon. There are already plans to win more games with a dance platform in tow.
“The next game on the list that I would like to make, and the most requested, is none other than Silent Hill,” he says. “I think the game will also prove to be a challenge with all the enemies you have to dodge and crazy bosses like the worm and the moth. Although with Metal Gear Solid, I’ve gotten a lot of requests for Metal Gear Solid 2 on the dance floor so that never know.”
