die hard has captured the attention and fanfare of audiences around the world since 1988. Not only is there an endless debate surrounding the film as a Christmas movie, but it is also considered one of the best action thrillers of our time. . Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a detective who finds himself trapped in an office building with terrorists holding hostages, including his wife.
The concept alone, coupled with the high stakes, is a great archetype for a story that many movies and video games have tried to replicate. Ultimately, some games stand out with their unique twist on die hard.
10 DOOM: Eternal
A Slayer and a few hundred thousand demons walk into a bar. The players know how this goes. id Software 2020 CONDEMN play, eternal DOOM features the titular Doom Slayer (or Doom Guy), as he fights the armies of Hell, alone. Although on the surface the Doom Slayer and John McClane have nothing in common, the action speaks for itself.
As the Doom Slayer, players are tasked with stopping an invasion and preventing humans from dying or their buildings from exploding. If that sounds familiar, then it’s basically die hardexcept there’s a plethora of fast-paced action, gore, and demons to rip and tear, and hopefully, more titles on the way.
9 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Every movie, TV show, or video game has more at stake in the sequels. this is true for die hardand it is especially true for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The game even begins with a climactic show where the player boards a destroyed train hanging off a cliff amidst snowy mountains. It’s a great narrative introduction, but there are some criticisms of the narrative structure of the series.
Nathan Drake and John McClain are pretty similar leads. They can both be goofy, out of it, and witty when they feel like it. Nate’s mood as he converses with the villainous Lazarević is much like McClain’s own interactions with Hans Gruber. Not to mention the gameplay, which has Nate alone and fighting hordes of mercenaries.
8 far away 5
The fifth main installment of the Very far ubisoft Franchise, far away 5 ultimately takes players to a less exotic location. The players are taken home to the United States. The protagonist is involved in law enforcement as a junior deputy, soon becoming directly involved in a plot to take over America by religious cultists.
What makes the game similar to die hard it is the aspect of a man against a group of terrorists. The protagonist, and therefore the player, must use all the tools at their disposal to defeat this hostile group and show them what the United States stands for, while firing the guns. Or, going the stealthy route.
7 Wolfenstein: The New Order
A man looking to take back what he loves from the Germans. Thinking of die hard? Think again. Wolfenstein: The New Order was the action-adventure first-person shooter game developed by MachineGames. This title brought wolfenstein back into the mainstream and had a blast doing it.
As BJ Blazkowicz, players must escape from an asylum under German occupation. This game takes place after the war, in which the Nazis won. It’s another kind of “one man against the world” deal, and the stakes are higher than ever, as the player fights against fascism.
The action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment is inspired more by David Lynch than by die hard, but that doesn’t stop the two from having a similar plot. With Control, players enter the mind of protagonist Jesse Faden. She finds herself as the new director of the Federal Bureau of Control, but in a completely empty building.
In the FBC building, players will have to use supernatural abilities and weapons to eliminate the hostile invasion of the supernatural Hiss. It’s a great mystery, full of interesting side quests and characters. However, a protagonist dealing with hostiles one floor at a time is very die hard, and definitely a game worth trying, especially if you’re an AT&T customer.
Although this game does not feature many of the core attributes that one would associate with die hard. Metal Gear Solid 3: Serpent Eater can still be considered basically Die Hard due to the events that take place. The game lacks the iconic Nakatomi Square, considering that it is set in the Cold War era in the Soviet Union.
As Naked Snake, players must navigate the jungle and Soviet-run facilities to infiltrate and rescue a weapons designer and sabotage an experimental weapons operation that could threaten the world. bets higher than die hardbut similar.
4 Resident Evil 2 (new version)
As a deadly virus puts the residents of Raccoon City under the catastrophic thumb of death, resident evil 2 seeks to tell two stories. For the sake of Die Hard themes, this entry will be reserved more for Leon than Claire.
As a new police officer, Leon arrives at an empty police station and soon finds himself biting off more than he can chew. He can’t say the same for the zombie horde. Leon must use his wits and strength to fight and solve the mystery that plagues Raccoon City in literal hell, but like McClain, the hunter can become the hunted. The terrifying Mister X will stalk you around the police station.
Another title that features hidden, crawling vents is Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The protagonist, Raiden, is sent to an offshore cleanup facility, Big Shell. The protagonist must sneak away and try to stop the terrorist plot.
What makes this game like die hard it is the use of stealth and the threat of using hostages to further the terrorist’s objective. To make the stakes even higher, the President of the United States is aboard the Big Shell, which means Raiden must put his tactical espionage training to good use, to save everyone.
two Half life
Often considered by gamers to be one of the best first-person shooters of all time, the original Half life developed and published by Valve is another title similar to that of die hard. The protagonist, Gordon Freeman, is completely silent, but it’s the actions of the game that make it similar.
Freeman must navigate through puzzle and shooting segments in the Black Mesa facility, which has been overrun by monsters and the army. It’s a one-man war as Freeman desperately tries to get to safety and, like McClaine, also wears vents. Hopefully like die hard, Half life you will receive a third entry.
1 batman arkham asylum
John McClane and Batman don’t exactly have a lot in common. The former is always a joker and can fail at times. Whereas Batman is serious and tough. Their similarities seem to come into play because they are both detectives and they both spend an unusual amount of time venting.
Inside Rocksteady batman arkham asylum, Batman finds himself trapped in Arkham Asylum, with the iconic villain, The Joker, freeing all the inmates to make the asylum go truly insane. The concept is very similar die hard, with the protagonist trapped in a hostage situation with criminals. Except this protagonist has a cape and pointy ears and fights a clown instead of Alan Rickman.
