Marvel vs Fortnite First Look Recreates Iconic Spider-Man Image

Fortnite x Marvel: War Zero It begins with a recreation of an iconic Spider-Man cover.

This June, Marvel Comics will crossover with the popular video game franchise in a new five-part miniseries. Wonderful released a preview of the first issue of the title, showing Spider-Man rescuing Jonesy from Fortnite and bringing him to the main Marvel Comics 616 universe. On the first page of the preview, Spidey is shown carrying Jonesy in the same pose he had on the cover of amazing fantasy #15, the hero’s first comic book appearance.

This shot of Spider-Man swinging someone to safety has been recreated and honored numerous times in the comics over the years, and this one came just in time for the web-slinger’s 60th anniversary. Outside Fortnite × MarvelMarvel celebrates the anniversary with a relaunch of The amazing Spider Man led by writer Zeb Wells and artist John Romita Jr. However, the Fortnite The miniseries marks another entry for Spider-Man and Marvel involved in the video game’s established canon and franchise.


Fortnite Players have been able to use different skins in the game, including his classic suit, symbiote suit, and actor Tom Holland’s wardrobe from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Other elements from Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have also made their way into the game, such as the addition of Doctor Strange before the next Doctor strange in the multiverse of madness movie. As for the comics though, the last time a published story combined the two franchises was when Fortnite x Marvel – Nexus War: Thor #1 released in 2020, which married the early work of writer Donny Cates Thor run with the game while Galactus was approaching his main island.

Where zero war will drive remains to be seen. For DC Comics, after the DC Universe crossed paths with Fortnite in it Batman/Fortnite: Ground Zero miniseries, the story wrapped up in a one-shot titled Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1, which released in October 2021. Since this is the second time Marvel has brought the franchise into its comics, it’s unclear if readers can expect more crossovers in the future.

Fortnite x Marvel: War Zero Issue #1 is written by Christos Gage and Donald Mustard, with interior art by Sergio Fernandez Davila and main cover art by Sunny Gho and Leinil Francis Yu. Mustard, Laura Martin, John Cassaday, Bill Sienkiewicz, Jim Cheung, and Ron Lim contributed variant covers for the issue. The issue goes on sale June 8 from Marvel Comics.
