The Fortnite The V19.20 patch notes have been released, detailing all the major additions and bug fixes coming with the latest update.
We are now more than halfway through Chapter 3 Season 1 of Fortnite, which means that the developers at Epic Games are starting to prepare for their final big event. Significant changes have been made to Battle Royale in the past two weeks, with extreme weather devastating the wild, Tilted Towers making a long-time return, and giant prehistoric creatures settling on the island.
Fortnite it certainly has a lot of momentum right now and it’s a very exciting time to be a part of its thriving community. In fact, the version 19.20 update has just gone live on the game, adding a ton of additional content for players to sink their teeth into.
According to the official patch notes, here’s everything you need to know.
Haven Skins and Feather Currency added
Fans may remember that in the previous season of Fortnite, there was a cartoonish skin known as Toona Fish. By collecting ink bottles and rainbow paint, she was able to gradually unlock different color schemes for this monochrome avatar.
Chapter 3 Season 1 has lacked a Toona Fish equivalent so far. With the V19.20 update, players can try out different spirit skins for a character named Haven.
To start acquiring these additional cosmetics, you must first purchase Haven from the Battle Pass menu. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to complete optional quests around the island to get skin schematics.
You can then purchase these designs using a new pen coin. Items can be found in chests that are scattered around the island, much like the rainbow ink from the previous season.
Covert Cavern Base Established
Sandwiched between Camp Cuddle and Logjam Lumberyard, a new Point of Interest (POI) has been added to the Fortnite Map.
In the northern mountain range, you will find a secret base that has been established in a hollowed out part of the rock, accessible through a hidden water conduit. Known as Covert Cavern, this is a real gold mine for those who want to loot high-tech equipment and materials.
According to the patch notes, it’s also the best place to look for the new Mythic variant of the Stinger SMG. The original versions of this weapon were considered so powerful that Epic Games had to substantially nerf them in a recent patch, so it will be fun to see what this upgraded model is capable of.
The Mythic Stinger SMG is not included in competitive playlists at the time of this writing.
Unvaulted Heavy Shotgun
Speaking of weapons, the Heavy Shotgun has finally been retired for the V19.20 update.
Its specs are slightly different from when it was last available in the game, as it has been converted to a single-shot firearm and has a longer range. Now that the Heavy Shotgun has returned to loot, you can find it on the ground, in chests, and inside supply drops.
Another thing worth mentioning is that due to a bug, the Heavy Shotgun is currently unable to penetrate through multiple targets. The patch notes acknowledge the existence of this flaw and promise that it will be fixed in a future update.
Competitive Mode Updates
Some adjustments have also been made to Fortnite competitive playlists, which have different payloads and rule sets.
Typically, if an item is new or has just been retired, it will have to go through an “evaluation period” in standard Battle Royale matches before it can be added to competitive playlists. This is to ensure that everything is properly balanced and the gear cannot blow up.
However, an exception has been made for the Heavy Shotgun, as this weapon was explicitly designed for use by skilled players. It’s available to use right now in competitive playlists.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man’s Web-Shooters have been slightly modified for use in competitive modes. Instead of having 80 shots, his ammo count has been reduced to just 20. This will incentivize players to be more conservative when using the mobility tool, as they can no longer constantly swing around the environment as a way to avoid the combat.
Miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks
As usual, the latest Fortnite The patch also implements some bug fixes and balance adjustments. Here is the full list of these:
- Tornado and lightning weather events have been added to the Team Rumble deathmatch mode.
- Fixed an issue with the visual prompt for using a Reboot Van appearing further away than the sound could be heard.
- Fixed an issue with matches sometimes not being recorded during a tournament session and points earned in those matches being lost.
- Fixed an issue involving Spider-Man’s web shooters dropping from eliminated players with a full stock of uses, even if they didn’t have a full stock before the player was eliminated.
