Team Brazil wins the NRG Champions Show over Clix and Deyy

See how the NRG Champions Show unfolded as the world’s best Fortnite players went head-to-head in Zone Wars.

It was a takedown of epic proportions at the inaugural NRG Champions Show last night. Executive Producer Grady Rains’ dream event came to life in Los Angeles, California at the NRG Hot Pockets Content Castle, where six duos from around the world traveled for a Zone Wars event.

Participants included various FNCS champions and featured players; Queasy and Hen from Europe; Mero and Dukez from NA East; Deyy and Clix from NA East; King and Phzin from South America; Jace and Basil from Australia; NA West Snacky and Favs. These talented tandems would eventually meet first in the Group Stage and then in Bracket Play.

Ultimately, only one duo could be called champions, and it was a result not many predicted before the NRG Champions Show.

NA East establishes dominance early

NRG’s own Clix and Deyy started early in the group stage, going perfect 2-0 against NA West and Brazil. The next group saw Mero and Dukez, who won the FNCS Grand Royale together, escape without losing a match. It seemed like the two titans from the NA East would inevitably go head-to-head in the Grand Finals, but the Brazil region had other plans.

Group stage results

  • Match One: Clix and Deyy vs. Phzin and k1ng
  • Match Two: Clix and Deyy over Favs and Snacky
  • Match Three: Favorites and Snacky over Phzin and k1ng
  • Match Four: Mero & Dukez over Queasy & Hen
  • Match Five: Mero and Dukez over Jace and Basil
  • Match Six: Dizziness and Chicken on Jace and Basil

K1ng and Phzin surprise the world, triumph over Clix and Deyy

Bracket Play saw Clix and Deyy continue their impressive run, taking out the NA West duo again in a rematch. Meanwhile, the South American team, k1ng and Phzin, dispatched the EU FNCS champions before pulling off a significant upset over Mero and Dukez.

As fate would have it, the Grand Finals set up a rematch between Team NRG and Team Brazil. The rounds were close all the way, but k1ng and Phzin rose above their competition. They found their footing in the Grand Finals as they reached match point multiple times. Ultimately, k1ng proved that he’s an advanced version of the 13-year-old phenom we saw at the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.

The Argentinian FaZe Clan member seized a 1v2 situation from low ground to secure Team Brazil’s victory at the NRG Champions Show. K1ng and Phzin hugged their parents after an impressive Zone Wars display and finally raised the golden trophies.

Group game results

  • Match One: Favs & Snacky on Jace & Basil
  • Match Two: Phzin & k1ng over Queasy & Hen
  • Match Three: Clix and Deyy over Favs and Snacky
  • Game 4: Phzin and k1ng over Mero and Dukez
  • Grand Finals: Phzin & k1ng over Deyy & Clix

More LAN events… please

The NRG Champions Show is another example of what Fortnite has to offer from an offline tournament perspective. Nothing is more enjoyable than seeing the best players in the world take on each other in one place. Epic Games has rightly been hesitant to host another large-scale event, considering the global pandemic. However, with mask mandates disappearing by the day, hopefully we’ll see another LAN event soon.
