Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War received its latest Zombies map several months ago, with Forsaken setting up an interesting future for Dark Aether’s story. However, fans will soon have a reason to return to the 2020 title’s Zombies mode, as Treyarch has announced some additional content. Along with a new ranged weapon and operator, Season 3 brings the Outbreak Collapse LTM. More importantly, there is a big secret in this update that Treyarch is teasing.
According to the developer, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans who completed all six main quests will be able to access “over a dozen unique rewards” as well as a “permanent upgrade on each Zombies map.” Since players need to find the location of this content, it certainly looks like a super Easter egg. No one knows exactly how Treyarch approaches bounties, though there have been two super Easter eggs in the past that could give a glimpse of what’s to come.
Potential rewards for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Super Easter Egg
Two Obligations Zombies experiences have dabbled in super easter eggs, with infinity war zombies and black ops 3 providing additional content for those who finished the other main quests. infinity warThe super easter egg was extremely thought of as it allowed players to access an additional boss if they completed all other quests. The Director’s Cut mode served as an excellent reward, as players were able to greatly speed up their games through numerous updates. black ops 3The super easter egg was much simpler, as it allowed players to permanently start games with the RK5 pistol instead of the MR6.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarThe super Easter egg will likely follow in the footsteps of black ops 3, as it’s hard to imagine an additional boss fight in the mode alongside the Director’s Cut features. Instead, players will likely only be able to open a locked door to collect special loot. Treyarch’s hint of a “permanent update on all Zombies maps” also sounds a lot like permanent RK5. Perhaps players who have completed all main missions will start each match with their weapon at Pack-A-Punch level 1, speeding up matches and allowing them to save some points.
The concept of finding a location to access the super Easter egg rewards is an interesting one, and it should be fun to see players hunt for the additional rewards once the patch is released. While it’s possible that this location could be hidden within a previously closed part of a map like Mauer Der Toten or Forsaken, it could also be incorporated into one of Outbreak’s maps. As shown with Ruka, Treyarch is keen to add zombie-only areas to fireteam maps. As such, one of the Outbreak maps could be expanded with an additional location. Treyarch is also adding a new Outbreak mode alongside this super Easter egg, which could be seen as a hint to look inside Outbreak.
While a permanent update to Pack-A-Punch seems possible, and it makes sense that the “secret” location would be somewhere in Outbreak, it remains to be seen what the other rewards will be. With “over a dozen” items available to those who finished all six main quests, there’s clearly plenty to collect. These rewards could be a variety of camos, calling cards, and emblems, and there’s also the possibility of an Operator skin.
Perhaps the most likely scenario is an exclusive pack for Zombies fans who completed each main quest. Data miners who leaked WMD and Jungle also found Zombies-themed cosmetics in the files. Specifically, Pack-A-Punch camos and an Operator Ravenov were seen in the game code. These could be great rewards for dedicated players, as they can spawn zombies and multiplayer with a weapon that looks Pack-A-Punched. A full Operator in the form of Ravenov is also a great reward. While this is pure speculation, perhaps the leaked Zombies cosmetics are free rather than the items players buy with COD points. Fortunately, with Season 3 just a week away, fans won’t have to wait long for answers.
