Minecraft is easily one of the best games of all time. It presents a HUGE and truly open world with almost limitless possibilities. There is an endless amount of things to do in the game. From mining to construction to farming and everything in between. It’s so much that it can honestly be very overwhelming.

That is why we are here to step in and help. In today’s guide, we will cover how to make bread in Minecraft. This is something that all players should know, as bread is a very easy to acquire food source that can help you significantly early in the game. We will cover how to get the ingredients and the recipe.

With that introduction out of the way, let’s jump straight into this guide on how to make bread in Minecraft!

Step 1: Seed Collection

First things first, you are going to need the ingredients to make the bread. The bread is made with three pieces of wheat. Wheat can be found naturally throughout the world. Has a chance to spawn in dungeons, towns, and other naturally generated structures. But the best and most sustainable way to get a supply of wheat is to simply build your own farm! But to get a farm, you will first need seeds.

Seeds can also spawn in chests between naturally spawning structures, but you don’t want to spend all day collecting them from chests. For easier seeding, simply break tall grass. Tall grass has a chance to drop a seed. You can go to an open area and hold the LMB to break blocks, moving your mouse back and forth from left to right to break a lot of grass at once.

Step 2: Growing Wheat

Once you have enough seeds, now it’s time to make a farm! Simply collect some water with a pail (needs 3 irons, see link for recipe) or find a natural source of water, such as a river or pond. Now make a hoe (you need two sticks and two made of wood, stone or other material, see the link for the recipe). Then hoe on a grass block within at least four blocks of a water source. This will till the soil, making it ready to use!

Then take your seeds and right click on the ground to plant them, and a small green plant will appear on the ground. Make sure you do this on the ground so it gets sunlight, or set up some torches or other light sources next to it. Plants need light to grow! After this, just wait a few days in the game for your wheat to finish growing. You can harvest wheat by left clicking when the plant turns golden yellow.

Step 3: bread making

Now that you have some wheat on your hands, the next step is to start crafting! Making bread is a very simple recipe and easy to remember. All you need is three pieces of wheat per loaf of bread. Place it on three squares in the crafting menu horizontally (as in the image above). This will produce a loaf of bread for you to consume. The bread restores 2 and a half bars of hunger each time you consume it.

And there you have it! At this point, you should have a basic farm to grow your wheat. To get more bread, simply plant the seeds (which fall off every time you harvest wheat) back into the ground. It’s a good idea to expand your farm as soon as possible to exponentially increase your food supply. I recommend crafting plenty of bread before venturing far from your base so you don’t starve.
