When does Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 start? Release date, event, battle pass and what we know

Fornite Chapter 3 Season 4 is fast approaching as its long summer season begins to wind down. With a new season of Fortnite coming in September, the leaks and rumors are starting to pour in, as usual. As it stands now, it looks like a rumored seasonal theme is gaining credence as the in-game Reality Tree continues to spread its weirdly nostalgic influence. Here’s everything we know about Fortnite Chapter 3, the Season 4 release date, the battle pass, and more.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 start date

Epic usually doesn’t formally announce the start date of a new season until the last minute; sometimes the company doesn’t even announce it before it arrives with a game update. But we can always reliably infer when the next season starts thanks to the in-game battle pass menu.

Playing now: 7 ways Fortnite changed the game

Because a new season always means a new battle pass, and the game always details when the current battle pass expires, we can expect a new season to start a day after the current battle pass expires. For Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4, that means a new season is expected to start on September 18.

This also lines up perfectly with the recent Fortnite new season releases, which have been happening on Sundays for about a year now. That means the last day of Season 3 should be September 17. If you’re still finishing your battle pass, you have until then to do so.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3 Final Event

With each outgoing season, fans look forward to another Fortnite live event. These story-driven cinematic events play out like live theater where every player has a direct part in the action. They’re a lot of fun, so it’s no wonder players expect each season to bring a final event.

So far, we haven’t seen many rumors pointing to an event, though there are at least two reasons to hope something will be revealed soon. For one thing, the story is ramping up quite dramatically. In the most recent Vibin’ Quests, this season’s story-focused challenges, it was revealed that several members of The Seven appear to have disappeared, with at least two of them leaving their helmets behind.

The Seven’s airtight suits are what keep them immune to the island’s time-loop properties, preventing them from being “snapshots” or clones of them, among other benefits. If their hooves have been found, it may mean that they are in danger or even cloned. And if that’s the case, it’s exactly the kind of drama we may need to resolve a final event.

Another reason to wait for an event is the recent revelation that an additional game patch has been queued for release later this season. The content of a live event is inevitably mined every time by the game’s restless data mining community, and recently the most prominent of those data miners, Hypex, noted that an additional patch is on the way this season. This could be a means for Epic to hide the details of the event for as long as they can.

It’s also worth noting that while most events occur at the end of a season, they do occasionally occur at the start of a new season, such as Zero Crisis Finale, which arrived as part of the Season 6 update in Chapter 2, meaning it wasn’t visible to data miners until the night before the season launched, while the patch was being applied.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 Theme and Battle Pass

Right now, there are two main theories as to what the next Fortnite Battle Pass will be and what the theme of the season will be. By our estimation, one of them seems more likely than the other, but we’ll go over both. One theory suggests that the upcoming season will be completely Marvel-themed. The evidence for this is pretty simple: Chapter 2 Season 4 was a Marvel season, and since Epic and Marvel have some kind of multi-year deal, another Marvel season could happen, so why not exactly a chapter later?

Well, here’s why not: In the story, the Reality Tree is messing with the island’s landscape, magically turning current regions into throwbacks to the game’s original chapter and map. Rumors have started to surface that this is just one tease of more to come, and Chapter 3 Season 4 will be about these nostalgic Fortnite memories from a few years ago. The season will also kick off right around the game’s fifth anniversary, which arguably lends more credence to the rumors.

With that in mind, a battle pass for such a season could mix up popular but reimagined characters we’ve seen before, like Black Knight, Brite Bomber, and maybe even ubiquitous heroes like Jonesy and Ramirez.

This is the kind of article we’ll be aggressively updating as we learn more, and it won’t be long before the leaks really start rolling in, we hope.
