call of duty: war zoneThe new patch notes are helping to make amends with sniper lovers after the weapon class recently received a huge nerf. call of duty: war zone has been a huge success since its release in 2020, largely finding its audience due to the pandemic. Since most people were at home, they needed new games to play and call of duty: war zone provided an affordable solution to this problem without compromising any of the fun. The game has continued to evolve and maintain its immense momentum over the course of several years, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t irritated its extensive fan base.

The players were quite angry because call of duty: war zone nerfed snipers recently, making them much weaker than ever. Many argued that since snipers require a lot of skill to use effectively and even put you at a disadvantage since it makes the player vulnerable in close-range engagements, they shouldn’t be nerfed. The Call of Duty developers apparently listened to this argument and gave various snipers significant upgrades to make them more powerful. They’re still not where they were before, but it’s a welcome improvement. The patch notes also reveal bug fixes and adjustments to the effectiveness of the Serpentine perk. Weapon Settings

We’ve seen a positive change in kill metrics since the Snipers update in Season 3. The intent was to lean towards smaller maps favoring aggressive snipers over heavier snipers who are more suited to the big map. Our data shows that despite a smaller adoption rate (~9.5%), snipers are still credited with a competitive number of kills against the more popular weapon class.

However, we would like to lean into the weapon to map identity more strongly, and as such all snipers receive roughly a 35% bonus to their maximum damage range. Lighter rifles, with their damage range builds, will now more reliably cover typical lines of sight found in Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep. The goal is to never go back to faster ADS snipers being the dominant weapon in every scenario, so if things start to go that way, we’ll make specific changes to other stats for those featured weapons.

We have seen positive adoption of Serpentine in Loadouts and as such the average encounter time has increased. We’re reducing the bonus damage mitigation so it’s still a valuable perk, but has less of an impact on average TTK. We will be watching this space closely and will make further adjustments as needed.

ERROR CORRECTION

  • Fixed an issue in Fortune’s Keep that caused gas to be harder to see than intended.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to exploit weapon swap stations.
  • Fixed an issue that caused dropdown buy stations to remain active on gas, allowing unintended feats.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Skål Crusher (VG) to not have a Zombies Mastery Camo section available.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the incorrect unlock criteria to appear for “The Vault” vehicle skin in the vehicle customization menu.
  • Fixed collision issues with AI mercenaries during the Cash Draw Event in Fortune’s Keep.
