How to make a cake in Minecraft

Do you want to know how to make a cake in Minecraft? Of course yes! A Minecraft cake is a great source of food when exploring the deserts, wastelands, and jungles of your world, but it also has other unique uses. Speaking of jungles, that’s the Minecraft biome that the lovable pandas call home, and another fun fact about them is that cake is one of their favorite foods, and therefore an essential component of befriending them.

Since the Caves and Cliffs 1.17 update, you can even put a candle on top of a minecraft cake, making the perfect birthday present for your friends in multiplayer… or maybe just your pet horse in your single player world. As for its main use as a food source, a cake works in a distinctive way. Instead of just chewing on it, like a panda does, you lay it down, taking one slice at a time. This means you can make it last and save inventory space while you’re at it. This is what you need to know about the cake recipe and how to make a cake in Minecraft.

Minecraft Cake Crafting Recipe

You have to work quite a bit before you can make a cake, as it is one of the most complex food recipes in Minecraft. It also helps to have some arable and pastoral farms on the go, as you need wheat, sugar, cows, and chickens to make a Minecraft cake.

The recipe for a cake in Minecraft is three milk cubes (so you also need nine iron ingots for the cubes), one egg, two sugar and three wheat, and you use the full 3×3 grid of a table crafting, so you need one of those, too. The correct order for the items, as you can see in the image above, is to place the three milk cubes in the top row, one egg in the middle box with one sugar on each side, and three wheat on the bottom.

How to make sugar in Minecraft

Sugar, in its powdered form, is made from sugar cane. Sugarcane can be obtained from any biome in the overworld that has water, as it spawns in the dirt or sand next to the water’s edge. To grow sugar cane, simply plant it in sand or soil, with an adjacent water block; You will notice that you cannot plant it without water. After some time, the sugar cane grows upwards to a maximum of three blocks. Cut the top two, but let the bottom one continue to grow; in no time you will have more sugar cane than you know what to do with.

Minecraft Cake Recipe: Milk Bucket

How to get milk in Minecraft

To get the required three buckets of milk, you need access to at least one cow. It can be tame or wild, but it needs to be an adult. Simply craft three buckets with three iron ingots each (you can’t skimp here, as all three buckets need to go on the crafting grid at the same time) and use the buckets on a cow by right-clicking with the empty bucket on your main hand.

How to farm eggs in Minecraft

Chickens in Minecraft lay eggs periodically, so your best method of collecting eggs is to have a few chickens in a pen (preferably a big comfy one, of course). However, if you go exploring and see chickens lying around, chances are an egg or two will find its way into your inventory.

Uses for a Minecraft Cake

As we mentioned, there are some unique uses for Minecraft cakes, but one we haven’t mentioned is simply as a decorative item! Make your beautiful base’s kitchen look even better by placing a cake to the side or on the dining table. That way, if you find yourself desperately hungry, you know there will always be something to eat when you get home.

Other uses for a Minecraft cake:

  • Food fountain: As a food source, a slice of cake isn’t very good, restoring only two hunger points. However, eating a whole cake is actually one of the best food sources for saturation and hunger, with its seven slices adding up to a total of 14 satisfied hungers.
  • panda food: If you drop a cake near a panda, it may rush and pick it up. However, pandas don’t eat a cake block placed on the ground, so you have to throw it with ‘Q’, instead of placing it by right clicking. Cake doesn’t make a panda go into love mode like bamboo, so this is more just for the cute factor, really.
  • redstone component: Thanks to its unique cutting mechanics, the Minecraft cake is also an interesting component of redstone. Like hunger, a full cake emits a signal intensity of 14, which decreases by two for each slice removed.
  • composting: It’s a bit wasteful, but if you’re desperate, you can throw a cake in a composter to increase the level by one.
  • Birthday cake: Last but not least, our favorite, place a single candle on top of a cake and light it up for a delicious birthday surprise! You can put any colored candle on a cake (hint: red goes with cherries), but you can’t put more than one.

So now that you know how to make a Minecraft cake, go ahead and enjoy your tea party surrounded by pandas, and don’t get burned by those candles. If this has given you all sorts of ideas for your friends’ birthdays, find out how to host a Minecraft server and invite everyone to a celebration.
