Technoblade, a top YouTube creator who specialized in Minecraft videos, has died a year after revealing a cancer diagnosis, according to a statement from his family. He was 23 years old.
in a emotional youtube video shared on the Technoblade channel on Thursday, the YouTuber’s father announced that his son had died. “He was the most amazing child anyone could ask for,” his father said. “I miss Technoblade.”
The video uploaded Thursday, titled “So long, nerds,” included a posthumous audio message from the creator. “Hello everyone, this is Technoblade. If you are watching this. I’m dead,” Technoblade said, revealing that his real name is Alex. “Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had another hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every time, as those were the happiest years of my life.”
In The Technoblade Online Storeone message reads: “In honor of his memory, a portion of the proceeds from all online orders will be donated to a wonderful organization called curasarcoma.org”, link to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
Technoblade, whose online avatar was a crowned pig king, has 10.8 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. “I play video games too much. I may not be the best, but my elbows are hot,” says the YouTube bio of him.
A statement at the end of the video shared on Thursday read: “We, the Technoblade family, wanted everyone to know how much we adored and respected our fans and colleagues. From Technoblade’s early online days, he was always looking for ways to delight and reward his audience. Even after his eventual successes, she somehow managed to maintain his good-natured humility, competing with an endearing balance between his confidence and self-deprecation. He avoided his personal fame and worked hard to keep his true identity confidential, and we ask that you respect his wishes to protect his privacy and the privacy of his family.”
The statement continued: “The past year has seen many difficult times for our son as he battled stage four cancer. But he didn’t complain and he continued to use his famous strategic mind to try and beat what he knew to be nearly impossible odds. My son’s courage on this path was a shining lesson for all of us who had the privilege of walking it with him. Thank you for sharing his journey through it all as he did the work he loved for his loving fans.”
According to his father, Technoblade wrote his last message to fans about eight hours before he died. “I don’t think he said everything he wanted to say, but I think he got the main points,” his father said.
Technoblade revealed its cancer diagnosis in August 2021, explaining that he started having pain in his right arm in July, initially thinking it was a repetitive stress injury from gaming. But after a few days, she noticed his shoulder was swollen and thought he had broken a bone, so he went to the hospital and was later diagnosed with cancer.
