What is the use of a pumpkin pie in Minecraft 1.19 update?

Pumpkin is an interesting crop in Minecraft. For many years, it was not a crop at all; it was simply a block that was randomly generated around the world. Another interesting fact is that there was no difference between carved pumpkins and regular pumpkins for many years. All the gourds were carved and simply called gourds.

However, when the pumpkin became farmable, it also became food in the form of pumpkin pie. Given the amount of food in the game, is it worth crafting or are there better food sources and better uses for pumpkins?

Pumpkin pie is made using a pumpkin, sugar, and an egg. These ingredients will create a single cake, meaning players will need a relatively large pumpkin, sugar cane, and chicken farm to continue making a significant number of cakes.

Cooked chicken might be a better long-term food, as it restores six or three hunger icons, but restores almost twice as much saturation. However, if players have an excess of sugar and eggs, there is no reason not to make pumpkin pies.

Unsurprisingly, pumpkin pie is one of the many foods in Minecraft. It is one of three craftable desserts, the other two being cookies and cake. As food, pumpkin pie will restore players’ hunger and saturation.

The amount of hunger that a single pumpkin pie will restore equals eight, which is represented in-game as four full hunger icons. The saturation restored by this single pumpkin pie is 4.8, which makes pumpkin pie the worst of all cooked foods for saturation apart from a slice of pie or a single cookie, which restores 0. 4 saturation each.

While the hunger restoration isn’t terrible, the low saturation means players will need to eat more pumpkin pie than most other foods, meaning players will need a lot of pie to stay fueled.

This makes pie a good choice for when no other food is available, but should be quickly replaced with steak or pork chops, both of which restore the same hunger but offer almost triple the saturation.

The other uses of pumpkin

While pumpkin pie is probably the best use for pumpkins, it is by no means the only use for growing it.

Players can also use pumpkins as light sources in the form of lanterns. These light sources are made by placing a pumpkin and cutting it up. This will result in a carved pumpkin. The carved pumpkin can be combined with a torch to make a pumpkin. These pumpkin lights produce a light with the highest luminance of 15, which is much brighter than the component torch.

There are two other main uses for pumpkins, although they are almost identical to each other. These are the creations of the two artificial beings in Minecraft: the golems. To create a golem, players will need to cut up a pumpkin, as mentioned above, which will result in a carved pumpkin.

The first golem is the snow golem, made up of two blocks of snow, one on top of the other, and a carved pumpkin as the third block in the vertical column. The carved pumpkin must be placed last or the golem will not appear. Interestingly, since snow and carved pumpkins are blocks that endermen can pick up, it is technically possible for endermen to create and spawn snow golems.

The other golem is the iron golem. These golems are made from a combination of iron blocks and a carved pumpkin. To do so, players must make a plus sign, with the pumpkin on top of the plus sign and the rest as iron blocks. As with the snow golem, the pumpkin must be placed last or the golem will not spawn.
