Collecting items using The Allay

Every year at MineCon Live, Minecraft developer Mojang holds a vote for players to choose a new mob or biome to add to the game. In 2021, the mob vote saw Glare, Allay and Copper Golem fight to be the latest addition to Minecraft.

After an incredibly close final round of voting, Allay beat out the Copper Golem, and the cute, music-loving creature was added to the game as part of the 1.19 Wild update. The Allay is more than just adorable though: can become useful when retrieving items for the playerso if you want to have your own floating blue pet, here is everything you need to know.

What is Alley?

The Allay is a very small light blue mob that floats, resembling the Evoker’s Vexes in both its size and the way it moves. Allay’s main purpose is to search for items for the player. – Once you tell him what to look for, he’ll go out and grab any matching blocks or items he sees and return them to you.

Allays has a natural health regeneration of two hearts per second, and cannot be harmed by whoever is searching for items., so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about any damage to your little blue friend. One thing to note is that unlike the Vexes, they can’t go through walls and they can’t enter water either.

How to get an alloy

The association with Vexes continues, as the only places you can find Allays are areas inhabited by Illagers. Allies can spawn at Pillager Outposts – One to three Allays can be spawned in dark oak cages near the main tower. They can also appear in Woodland Mansions.Cobblestone Cell Rooms: Between one and three Allays can spawn in each cell.

It’s important to put attention on Smoothing is not guaranteed on these structures.. An outpost can spawn without Allay cages, and similarly, a mansion cannot have prison cells. Be prepared to travel to multiple Illager structures if you’re unlucky. It should also be noted that Allays are not generated renewablely. Any Alllays within these structures will be generated on structure generation, and after that, no more will be generated. – Similar to the Illagers in a Mansion or the Elder Guardians in an Ocean Monument.

How to Breed Alloys

In the 1.19 release, those were the only ways to get Allays, but thankfully, they’re actually renewable as of the first 1.19 patch. If you play music on a jukebox with an Allay nearby, the Allay will begin to dance by moving its head from side to side. While he is dancing, you can give him an amethyst shard.which will make it emit hearts like animals do when you feed them to put them in love mode. The Allay will then clone itself.and now you have two Allays.

Both the original Allay and the clone will have a two and a half minute cooldown before they can clone more.but this welcome change means you can get more Relief without having to walk from one Woodland Mansion to another.

How to use The Allay to collect items

Once you have your Allay (or multiple Allays), you’ll probably want to put it to work. To tell the Allay what you want it to collect, hold the item in your hand and use it on the Allay by right-clicking or pressing the use/place lock button on your controller.. This will give the item to Allay, at which point Allay will be yours. This means that he will follow you and you will not be able to hurt him. The item that Allay is holding and searching for is always visible, as he is holding it in his hands.

The only items you can’t allay are leads and name tags., since trying to use this will actually use them and they will perform their normal function. You can give an Allay an Immortality Totem, and it will go out for more as usual, but if the Allay dies while holding this item, the totem will activate and be consumed, as the Allay will resurrect at full health.

Once Allay has his item, while following you be on the lookout for more of that item sitting on the ground nearby. If he sees any, he will go to them, pick them up and bring them to you.. The Allay can’t break blocks, it only searches for items on the ground, the kind you could walk up and pick up yourself.

The Allay has an “inventory” that can hold a stack of items, in addition to the item you gave him. This means that if you gave it a cobblestone block, it can hold an additional 64 cobblestones. If you gave him a bucket, it can hold an additional 16 buckets, and if you gave him a diamond sword, it can hold an additional diamond sword.

As the Allay goes looking for items, it will periodically come back to you and throw what it picked up at you, like a dropper. He will keep the original item you gave him. so you still know what you are looking for. The exact range at which Allay can detect items is 32 you can cover a pretty large area, and in case you get further apart, the Allay can still find its way to you from up to 64 blocks away.

If you want to retrieve the item you gave to the Allayeither to give him something else or just to stop him from looking for things, right click or press the “use” button on the Allay with an empty hand. This will return the item to your inventory, assuming you have room to take it, and clear Allay’s slot to search for another item.

The fact that the Allay can pick up non-stackable items like weapons and armor is exciting, as opens up the possibility of non-stackable item sorters – something that was not possible in Minecraft before. If you wanted your storage system to classify different types of swords in addition to all the blocks it classifies, you could have an Allay section with six Allays, each containing a type of sword, that would retrieve the corresponding swords as they passed through the system. . .

How to use alloys with note blocks

Of course, the problem with that ranking system would be that you’d have to stay there for the Allays to bring you the swords, and since they’re just being dropped into your inventory, they’re not really “ranked” at all. This is where notepads come they are the key to any type of Allay automation, from simply having Allay drop items into a chest for convenience, to massive, full-fledged sorting systems.

Allay’s love of music goes beyond her jukebox clone dance. Whenever an Allay hears any type of sound played on a note block (instrument and pitch don’t matter), that note block will become Allay’s favorite.. For the next 30 seconds, instead of throwing any item you picked up at him, instead, it will throw them into the notepad..

This is incredibly useful, as it allows you to place a hopper next to the note block to automatically pick up whatever the Allay drops.. If you want to keep your inventory clear while having Allay collect sand for you while mining it en masse, simply set up a circuit to activate a note block every 30 seconds and have Allay dump the sand into a hopper. below, which can lead to some chests or shulker crates for easy pickup.

A particle effect will be displayed when an Allay is connected to a Note Block, and when playing multiple Note Blocks, an Allay will always choose the closest one.meaning you can place many Allays, each with their own note block and hopper, in a small area to sort them by having each one directly next to a different note block and have the note blocks sound simultaneously.

The Allay is both a helpful helper and a lovable friend, offering great potential for moving and sorting objects. He was a worthy mob vote winner and a fantastic addition to the game, so have fun tracking, cloning and using Allays in your Minecraft worlds!
