The new Marvel and DC crossover is only possible thanks to Fortnite

Thanks to Fortnite and Zero Point, the Marvel and DC universes have a chance to collide (as demonstrated in both publishers’ Fortnite crossovers).

Caveat! Spoilers ahead for Marvel x Fortnite: War Zero #1

Fortnite respective series of comics with Wonderful Y DC they have created a secret crossroads between the two universes. Thanks to the Zero Point and its ability to open doors to other realities, Fortnite new zero war comic with Marvel has confirmed that the events of Batman/Fortnite: Ground Zero It’s just as canon. While the new ties may currently be indirect, it does support the possibility of a future Marvel/DC crossover of epic proportions.

As previously revealed in Fortnite established tradition of their bat Man crossover (and the game itself), a group known as the Imagined Order (or IO) are the main antagonists who threaten the stability of the omniverse in their quest for knowledge and power. Not only that, but they also manipulate Ground Zero to travel the omniverse, often drawing the best fighters from multiple realities to battle it out on Fortnite Island in a constant loop of conflict. While they can be saved from the Loop, copies known as snapshots are created that continue to fight. For example, when Batman was sent to the island and came out of the loop, he met other beings who had also broken his loops. Together they actively resisted the IO while trying to return to their respective realities. However, the Imagined Order also joined forces with Lex Luthor, Deathstroke, and DC’s Batman Who Laughs.

Now the new Marvel x Fortnite: War Zero #1 is here by Donald Mustard and Christos Gage (the same team that wrote DC’s Zero point). Featuring art by Sergio Davila, the new issue sees Spider-Man recruiting help from his own universe after spending time on Fortnite Island. While he missed the in-game crossover with Marvel known as the nexus war in 2020, he and the Daily Bugle arrived on the Island in early Fortnite Chapter 3 in 2021. Saved from the Loop by the Foundation and their team of heroes known as the Seven, Spider-Man has joined the resistance movement against Doctor Slone and the Imagined Order. However, the death of Fortnite The character Fishstick was confirmed to be a snapshot and the real Fishstick died in Batman/Fortnite: War Zero. Also, the end of this first issue reveals that none other than Doctor Doom has been recruited by the Imagined Order, meaning that both he and Lex Luthor now belong to the same omniversal organization.

While the ties may be small now, the fact that the events of both series exist in the same reality that is Fortnite creates exciting potential for the future. Marvel and DC haven’t had a crossover since Kurt Busiek and George Perez. JLA/Avengers in 2003. Given the challenges that came with getting that crossover off the ground, it’s unlikely the two publishers would ever work together again. Nevertheless, Fortnite Epic Games clearly has good relations with both, perhaps enough to motivate further cooperation for a true Marvel/DC crossover.

The fact that there are now Marvel and DC villains who belong to the Imagined Order and that the heroes of Fortnite they’ve fought alongside Batman and Spider-Man is pretty impressive in itself. If anything, the seeds have been sown for an even bigger crossover than what is currently happening in zero warone where Wonderful Y DC the heroes team up in earnest to save the omniverse together. If anyone can make it happen, it looks like it’s Epic Games and Fortnite.
